Piedmont & the Langhe is at its best for wine/vineyards in June to October. Good but not prime in May. Crowds peak in October and bottom out in March.

October and November are the entire point — Nebbiolo harvest, fog in the valleys, and the Alba White Truffle Fair running weekends from early October into early December

August. The region takes its own holiday around Ferragosto in mid-August — check your restaurants are open before you build a trip around them.

Long lunches and wine. The truffle fair is crowded and slow-moving; the vineyard walks between villages are gentle and good.
Alba is the hub and prices accordingly during the fair. La Morra, Barolo and Neive are villages with rooms above restaurants and a view over the whole of the Langhe.
The Langhe is a UNESCO landscape threaded with waymarked vineyard walks between villages — one of the best places in Italy to walk from one lunch to the next.
