Two coasts and two different holidays — the Caribbean side is the sheltered one, though the currents can still be strong, and the Atlantic side is surf and wind. Sits at the far eastern edge of the region, which puts it first in line rather than out of the way — Beryl hit it in 2024
Mid-August to mid-October carries the highest storm risk, peaking around 10 September. Crop Over runs July into early August and is wonderful and the opposite of a quiet beach holiday — know which you are booking.
November to March, and Crop Over from June to early August
The west and south coasts are calm and easy. The east coast at Bathsheba is spectacular and genuinely dangerous to swim — that distinction matters more here than almost anywhere.
The west coast is the expensive one. The south coast around Worthing and St. Lawrence Gap is livelier and cheaper for the same calm water, and closer to Oistins.
Barbados sits at the eastern edge of the basin and is hit less often than the islands north-west of it, but September and October still carry real risk.Jul · Aug · Sep · Oct
